Niger Delta Women's Day of Action for Environmental Justice 2019

On the 17th of December, 2019 Kebetkache mobilized over 3000 women including young girls to Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to amplify critical voices of women for environmental and climate justice.

Research Report on Use of 13% Derivation Fund

The public presentation of the research report was held on the 5th of July, 2020 in Kebetkache HQ and it looks into the distribution of the 13% derivation funds and its impact, if any, on the communities of the Niger Delta. This project activity is supported by Ford Foundation.

KEBETKACHE RECENT ACTIVTIES

Some women in the Niger Delta region have demanded urgent steps to mitigate the devastating effects of climate change causing environmental pollution in the region. The women under the aegis of Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre made the demand at an event on Tuesday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The United Nation has set aside March 8 to celebrate International Women's Day, 21 May to celebrate World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. Also upcoming is the World Environment Day (UNEP) on the 5th of June.

WOMEN INITIATIVE IN CLIMATE CHANGE

Women Initiative in Climate Change (WICC) is a network that was formed as aresult of Kebetkache project with Global Fund for Women. WICC sensitizes women and campaigns with them against oil extractive activities that contribute to climate change as women are most impacted by climate change in their livelihood and health. The aim of WICC is to raise a mass of women who are aware of the concept and effects of climate change and push for positive ways to reduce and survive the ever changing climate of the world.

PRESENTATION OF THE 13% DERIVATION FUNDS DISTRIBUTION RESEARCH IN THE NIGER DELTA

Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre with support from Ford Foundation conducted the research conducted to examine the extent which the 13% derivation fund is deployed to address the problem of poverty and more specifically, how the 13% derivation fund is benefitting the oil bearing communities in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers states.
